GEMS Programı California Üniversitesi Lawrance Bilim Merkezi tarafından geliştirilen programın amacı anaokulundan 9. sınıf sonuna kadar öğrencilerin fen ve matematik bilimlerindeki temel bilimsel kavramlarla yöntemleri anlamalarını ve bu bilimlere karşı olumlu bir tutum edinmelerini sağlamak, bunun yanı sıra bağımsız öğrenen ve eleştirel düşünebilen bireyler yaratmak, böylelikle öğrencilerin eğlenerek öğrenmelerini sağlayarak fen ve matematik alanlarındaki başarılarını arttırmaktır. GEMS dersleri; araştırmacı, yapıcı ve akılcı bir eğitim sistemini içermektedir. Buna göre çalışmalar sık sık güncellenir ilave kaynaklar kullanılır ve eğitim kalitesinden ödün verilmez. Bütün çalışmalarda mükemmellik sağlanması ve etkinlik basamaklarının takip edilmesi gereklidir. GEMS eğitimi, okullarımızda fen bilgisi eğitimi için kullanılan yöntemlerden biri olan “Gözetimli Keşif Yöntemi’nin en iyi yönlerini yansıtmaktadır. “Gözetimli Keşif Yöntemi”, bireylerin öğrenime doğrudan katılımını vurgular. Önce yapıp sonra açıklamak şeklindeki bu yöntem, öğrencinin kendiliğinden harekete geçmesini, konunun temelindeki kavram ve fikirleri anlamak için gereken deneyimi edinmesini ve eleştirel düşünmesini sağlamaktadır.

The GEMS Program was developed by the University of California Lawrence Hall of Science. The aim of this program is to enable students from kindergarten to the end of 9th grade to understand basic scientific concepts and methods in science and mathematics and to have a positive attitude towards these sciences. In addition, it aims to create individuals who can learn independently and think critically, thus increasing the success of students in the fields of science and mathematics by enabling them to learn while having fun. GEMS courses; include a researcher, constructive and rational education system. Accordingly, studies are frequently updated and additional resources are used. Excellence in all studies and activity steps must be followed. GEMS education reflects the best aspects of the "Supervised Discovery Method", one of the methods used for science education in our schools. The “Supervised Discovery Method” emphasizes the direct participation of individuals in learning. This method of doing first and then explaining enables the student to take action on their own, gain the necessary experience to understand the concepts and ideas at the core of the subject, and think critically.
